On 10 March 2015, 46th Raising Day of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was observed. On the occasion of CISF Raising Day, President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted all the CISF officers, soldiers, civilians, ex-servicemen and their families.
8th edition of India-Nepal Combined Exercise Surya Kiran VIII concluded on 8 March 2015 at Salijhandi in Nepal.
The exercise was carried out under the aegis of Nepalese Army and had started on February 23, 2015.
Surya Kiran VIII exercise provided an ideal and single platform for armies of the two countries to share their experiences on terrorist operations and counter insurgency especially in mountainous and jungle terrain.
In the exercise, troops of both countries carried out a search and destroy mission in the general area of Saljhandi which was culminated in a 48 hours consolidation and validation exercise.
Former Maharashtra Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) Sadashivrao Mandlik passed away in Mumbai. He was 83.
He was elected four-time as MP from Kolhapur Constituency and had served as a member in the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Lok Sabha. Prior to 15th Lok Sabha elections, Sadashivrao Mandlik had represented Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), but in 15th Lok Sabha he was elected as independent member.
Mandlik also was the member of Maharashtra legislative Assembly for three consecutive terms in 1985, 1990 and 1995 and represented Kagal constituency.
In 1993, Mandlik was Minister of State (MoS) for Irrigation, Education & Resettlement in the Maharashtra government.
Maharashtra government has launched Bhagyashree scheme for girls. The scheme replaces state government’s previous Sukanya scheme.
Bhagyashree scheme was launched by was launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with the actress Bhagyashree who is brand ambassador of the scheme. Under the Sukanya scheme, the state government was to earmark an amount of Rs. 21,200 for each girl child born in a Below the Poverty Line (BPL) family.
While the Bhagyashree scheme aims at providing one lakh rupee on maturity after the girl completes 18 years of age.
State government is seeking to link the Bhagyashree scheme with the Union Government’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
North East India’s first Kisan Call Centre (KCC) was opened in Agartala, Tripura. It was launched by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
The call centre is financed by Tripura government and will be run by experts of agriculture, fisheries, horticulture and animal husbandry from a private enterprise.
Tripura also launched farmer’s portal to issue advisory to farmers for farm production under direct supervision of the experts.
Previously, Union Government had started the KCC service in all states through Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO). However due to the language deficiency, it failed to cater to the farmers.
Senior Congress leader and Former Union Minister Mr. M. Veerappa Moily will receive the Saraswati Samman 2014 for his Kannada poem ‘Ramayana Mahanveshanam’.
The award would make Mr. M. Veerappa Moily the second Kannada author to receive the honour after S. L. Bhyrappa (2010).
‘Ramayana Mahanveshanam’ was first published in 2007 in Kannada and later was translated into English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. The poem explores the ‘Ramarajya’ or the true principle of the ‘ideal State’ from a secular and modern point of view.
World’s first solar powered aircraft on global journey- Solar Impulse 2 successfully landed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The aircraft was piloted by Swiss pilots Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg from its first halt Muscat, Oman.
The first test flight of the aircraft was conducted in the United States in 2013.
It should be noted that the Solar Impulse 2 is flying from west to east on the selected route as per the direction of tailwinds which is in same direction of aircraft to keep it afloat.
